What We Thought

The Corel may not be at par with RedHat but it offers an alternative as an OS for Windows users. This is largely attributable to the installer which provides great hardware detection functionality. At the same time able to hide the complexity of the system with a smooth graphical interface. This is done ably by keeping the inner workings graphics functions simple instead of cluttering the screen. This proves its mettle. With Microsoft becoming a major investor in Corel, this made Corel stay in business and affirmed its status as the Linux OS for the MS platform. Corel Linux is able to support everything in Windows environment, even network shared drives, printers accessible and other hardware inclusions. Configuration of the graphics KDE environment was also impressive. Though there are many applications included, it pales in comparison with the SuSE on DVD with over a thousand eight hundred applications included. This is better though as a desktop OS rather than a server OS. Priced at £26.99 plus VAT, it can only be purchased via Customer Service and not easily available in the UK. It’s a shame though that the target market it has made cannot readily reach out and purchase a copy for their home systems.
